Gun in the Closet
Abstract
Gun in the Closet Mom hates it when Dad cleans the barrel, then aims his sights at Aunt jenn on the wall. Can't study any more. Instead I play Guns and Roses. Dad's gone to Saudi. Mom's at the bar with that I wait at home alone. The man. only holds Dubonnet now. I drank the sherry. The red paint in my bedroom blisters lonely walls. No one liquor cabinet noticed that knife. My dog was run over last week. Mom said, "Anyway, he drooled." I tried aspirin last week after Tom laughed "No" to the dance. It only made me vomit. The house is silent. Dad taught me how to shoot. Mom's still not home. Elspeth Cameron Ritchie, M.D.
