Mdrz 1978) 1,4: 3,6-Dianhydro-a-D-glucopyranose, C6HsO4, a pyrolysis product of D-glucose, crystallizes in space group P2,2,2, with a = 6-295 (2), b = 9.002 (4), c = 10.862 (5) A, Z = 4. The tricyclic structure of the title compound was solved by direct methods and refined to a final Rw value of 0.05 for 507 independent reflexions. The pyranose ring of the molecule adopts an almost ideal BL4(D) boat conformation and the furanose ring a distorted envelope conformation, Eo(D) (phase angle P = 276.8°).
