(Received 9 July 1973; accepted 16 October 1973) CoS4024C32Hss, or Co(H20)6(HOOC-C6H4-SS-C6H4-COO)2(H20)6(CHaOH)4, triclinic, PT, a = 7-549 (1), b= 12.988 (2), c= 13.073 (2) A, ct= 107.06 (1)°, fl=97-19 (1)°, 7=94-30 (1)°, V= 1207.2 .~a at 19°C, D.~ = 1.400 g cm-3, Dobs = 1"41 (2) g cm-a. The structure consists of one hexaaquocobalt(II) cation at the origin and two C14H98204 anions, all linked together in a hydrogen-bonding scheme involving six additional waters and four methanol molecules, two of which are disordered. NiS4024Ca2Hss is iso- structural: a= 7.545 (1), b= 12.946 (5), c= 13.050 (2) A, ct= 106.96 (2), fl=97.08 (1), y=94.12 (3)° and V= 1202-1 A3. Introduction Transition metal ions such as mercury(II) (Challenger, 1959), palladium(II) (Kawanishi, Yokoyama & Tanaka, 1972; Boschi, Crociani, Toniolo & Belluco, 1970) and copper(I) (Ottersen, Warner & Serf, 1973) function
