This series provides an upclose and personal review of the morphology, physiology, biochemistry, cellular biology and developmental aspects of various target organs subjected to toxic encounters. Neurotoxicity is a relatively new discipline; the problems caused by neurotoxins have been there for a long time but it is only in the last decade that the large majority of publications, symposia and conferences, concerning this topic have appeared. The editors suggest to us that the U.S?Government Office of Technology Assessment has estimated that one-fourth of all chemicals may be neurotoxic. At the risk of invoking my motherâs wrath for tempting the Evil Eye, I, as many of you, I am sure, fear injury. We most certainly fear damage to our nervous system, from any source, especially our central nervous system.
