In the treatment of strabismus in children, the ophthalmologist should not only seek the elimination of the cosmetic disorder, but above all, strive to achieve as early as possible a cooperation of both eyes during vision; to this end primarily the loss of sight in the squinting eye should be restored. That is why I have, in several cases of amblyopia caused by strabismus, deliberately excluded the dominant eye from seeing by a Mastisol bandage. If this immediately caused good eyesight on both sides, or if already alternating squint existed, with full vision in both eyes, I tried, in cases of notso-large angles of strabismus, to reach binocular fusion by means of prism glasses of suitable strength.
