Audiological Medicine. 2006; 4: 231 OBITUARY Denzil Noel Brooks 1930 2006 arguing the case for such a course and outlining detailed proposals for its content. Is it too much to hope that this course will also attract audiological physicians keen to improve their knowledge and understanding of this field? Denzil first established his reputation in the area of acoustic admittance testing, bringing Scandinavian developments in this field to the Englishspeaking world and extending them with his own work, particularly in otitis media with effusion in children. For this he was awarded a research MSc by Manchester University in 1969. He maintained an interest in this field and was involved in the development of appropriate admittance techniques for the evaluation of neonates who had failed newborn hearing screening. Denzil Brooks was a founder member of the British Society of Audiology in 1967 and first chairman of its northern branch, becoming chairman of the Society in 1980 Ã82. He and his wife Barbara were stalwarts of the annual conferences of the Society from their inception.
