This book is a compendium of the most important lectures undertaken at the 76th Annual Meeting of the German Society of ENT Surgery in 2005. It is divided into fifteen chapters covering the most recent advances in the management of different aspects of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck surgery. The first chapter covers a broad spectrum of therapies for hearing disorders. It is divided into four sections covering the conservative and surgical management of hearing impairment; the restoration of hearing by the use of hearing aids and a final part on technical devices for the hearing impaired. These last two sections are especially interesting as they cover the benefits and disadvantages of using not only conventional hearing aids à bone-anchored hearing aids, MedEL vibrant soundbridge, middle ear transducer or soundtec direct drive system à but also the latest developments in fully-implantable hearing aids.
