E-mail: halla@mskcc.org Emmanuelle Caron, an outstanding young cell biologist working in the field of host pathogen interactions, passed away at age 42 on July 8, 2009. Her life, cut short, was one of commitment—to her family and friends, to her science and students, to her local community and church, and last but not least, to having fun along the way. Manue, as her friends and colleagues knew her, was a dedicated and successful scientist. She was also very much involved with her local community, and in both aspects of her life, she was an inspirational role model to those she taught and mentored. Her wonderfully warm personality—caring, considerate, and always with a hint of playful mischievousness—touched everyone she met. Manue was born in Dieppe, France, and graduated from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI, France) in 1988 with
