Highlights ► We describe the binding site of Auranofin (AF) for Sm TGR, an S. mansoni vital enzyme. ► We confirm a molecular mechanism for the Sm TGR inhibition by AF. ► We provide a model for Pf TR, the P. falciparum homologous of Sm TGR. ► We illustrate the results of an analysis of the putative interaction of AF with Pf TR. ► We conclude that Pf TR is likely to be the target for AF in P. falciparum.
