Foreword
The most common brain cancer is that secondary to metastases from
malignancies in extra-cranial organs. For a combination of reasons the
frequency of brain metastases is increasing and it is important that
oncologists in all specialties understand how to diagnose and treat
patients with this challenging clinical problem. In this issue of Current
Problems in Surgery, Drs. Tony Asher, Melike Mut and Mark Shaffrey,
from the Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates and the Depart-
ment of Neurosurgery at the University of Virginia, have written an
excellent monograph on “Brain Metastases” and provide the reader with
a clear understanding of the proper management of patients with this
condition. The treatise is well written with clear illustrations and an
excellent bibliography. The article will be a sole source repository of
information on this topic.
