Editorial
It has been almost two years since we launched
Ad Hoc Networks. We have seen many positive
developments in this period; the computer net-
working research community has recognized that
Ad Hoc Networks is on the right track and publish-
ing high-quality technical papers. Ad Hoc Net-
works is becoming well-known and acknowledged
for its high standards, rigorous review process,
and fast turnaround time. We are delighted to wit-
ness the gaining momentum and high reputation
the Journal has earned within the research com-
munity and in a short time.
Among the positive developments belongs with-
out any doubt the number of paper submissions:
In the first year we received 100 papers and during
the second year, this number has doubled. The
acceptance rate is approximately 30%. In the first
two years of the Journal we had four special issues
on timely topics. We express our hearty thanks to
all authors for submitting their outstanding papers
to our Journal.
In this time frame we also moved from e-mail
paper processing to the Editorial Manager tool
available for Web-based paper processing.
Authors can now submit their papers via the
Web and track the progress of their articles there.
The Editorial Manager for Ad Hoc Networks can
be found at http://ees.elsevier.com/adhoc/.
As a result, our paper handling has become
faster with the average turn-around time for the
first round now below three months.
Based on our success we decided to increase the
number of issues from 4 to 6 starting with this
third year.
Two years ago we started with an outstanding
Editorial Board. Over time, editors step down
and new editors are brought on board. In this issue
we recognize and thank these editors who have re-
tired from the Board after two years of service:
Victor Bahl, Bill Buchanan, Erdal Cayirci, Magda
El Zarki, Mario Gerla, Jean-Pierre Hubaux, David
B. Johnson, Bo Li, Guy Pujolle, P. Ramanathan,
Leandros Tassiulas, Adam Wolisz and Ty Znati.
All have devoted many hours in contributing to
the high quality and success of the Journal. On
behalf of Elsevier, the authors, and the readers,
we heartily thank them for their outstanding effort.
New editors bring continued technical leader-
ship, new ideas and fresh energy to the journal. Re-
cently we have invited several new editors to join our
Editorial Board and whom we welcome in this issue:
Tarek Abdelzahar, Ozgur B. Akan, Stefano Basa-
gni, Nirupama Bulusu, Tracy Camp, Susan Xiu-
zhen Cheng, Arjan Durresi, Silvia Giordano,
Martin Haenggi, Paul Havinga, Ahmed Helmy,
Thomas Hou, Vana Kalogeraki, Holger Karl,
Bhaskar Krishnamachari, Srikant Krishnamurthy,
Prasant Mohapatra, Sylvie Perreau, Jason Redi,
and Mohamed Younis.
We are very fortunate and excited to have these
outstanding researchers on our Board and look
forward to working with them.
We also express our special thanks to our cur-
rent Editors for their outstanding service, dedica-
tion and contributions to the success of our
Journal.
