Organizational Dynamics
Instructions to Authors
1. Editorial Position: Our domain is primarily organizational behavior and development, and
secondarily, HRM and strategic management. Our objective is to link leading-edge theory and
research with management practice. Thus, we are looking for articles that embody both practical
and theoretical content, showing how research findings and experience can help us deal more
effectively with the dynamics of organizational effectiveness.
2. Style: We are looking for a lively, lucid writing style. On the one hand, you will need to use
the terminology of the academic discipline. On the other hand, remember that half of the
Organiza tional Dynamics readers are professional managers. Thus, provide contextual clarification
for terms these readers may find obscure; illustrate using as many examples from contemporary
organizations as possible.
3. Length: Manuscripts must be 23–28 pages total, double spaced, 1 inch margins, and 12-point font.
Microsoft Word for Windows and Word Perfect are preferred.
4. Executive Summary: This is a less than one-page (double spaced) summary of the article. It should
capture the essence of the article and entice the reader.
5. Citations and Documentation: Note that articles in Organizational Dynamics contain NO formal
footnotes, end notes, or APA-style referencing. When citations are absolutely necessary, they
should be included in the body of the manuscript, using parentheses for publication data. When
building on the work of other writers, you should make a general citation in your text, such as
‘‘theories advanced by so-and-so.’’ Then, use the Selected Bibliography at the end of the article for
the full citation.
6. The Selected Bibliography: This is an addendum to the manuscript, written in a relatively informal
EXPOSITORY style. It serves two purposes: (1) acknowledgment of published works that influ-
enced your article, and (2) recommendations on where the reader can find more information on
points of interest. A typical Selected Bibliography cites only six or seven significant articles and
books, together with statements describing what the reader would find in each. Be sure to include
full citation information.
7. The ‘‘Research in Action’’ and ‘‘Learning from Practice’’ Features: These articles are 12–17 pages
(double spaced) reports on cutting-edge research results and value-added direct experience from
real-world organizations. John Slocum, Jr. is the editor for these Features and handles the review
process, but submit according to the above guidelines to the Editor, Fred Luthans (address below).
Submission: The title page must include the title and the names, addresses, phone and fax numbers,
and e-mail addresses of all authors. The corresponding author must be designated. Only electronic
submissions will be accepted for review. Please submit your article in an attached WORD document to
fluthans1@unl.edu
