In addition alternative strategies such as extinction based therapies as well as interference with reconsolidation processes of alcohol associated memories are under investigation. These new treatment strategies will be reviewed and furthermore given the heterogeneity in treatment response, genetic and protein markers as well as endophenotypes will be also discussed for providing an ideal individualised therapy.
