Modernist Cultures As Bluemel points out, intermodernist scholarship needs to pursue historical and archival work, ârecreat[ing] the web of personal and professional relationsâ, before it can offer a âtheoryâ of intermodernism (14). Intermodernism, she rightly suggests, âis not just for scholars of twentieth-century British literatureâ (6), and the volume closes with a helpful sixteen-page listing of âpossible intermodernistsâ. Much comparative work is left to be done on the transnational cultures of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Intermodernism will doubtless help to draw further attention to this exceptionally fertile period of literary and cultural production.
