They had called it the âNew Art of the Theater.â 1968, we wanted to break down the barriers between different art forms; to use the human body such a manner that the performer simultaneously created a work of livg art and was himself that work; place of antiquated socially elitist artifacts (popularly termed âmasterpiecesâ), we demanded new communal âhappengs,â with or without spectators. Now, 3 0 years later, and middle-aged, I suspect that todayâs students are just as ignorant as we were, unaware that for a truly radical reassessment
