Abstract

Taking Gerbner9s 'cultivation of belief approach and Scherer's 'component process model* of emotions as starting points, the affective cultivation effects on the basis of violence depiction in TV news are examined. An analysis is provided of the main news programs of both public and commercial television channels in Germany, taking more than 5000 news scenes into account.
