Synchronie et diachronie Prof. B. Malmberg, Lund 2. Interpenetration des systemes linguistiques Prof. E. Petrovici, Cluj 3. Linguistics and Adjacent Sciences Prof. R. Jakobson, Cambridge, Mass. 4. La methode comparative et les conceptions actuelles de la linguistique Prof. G. Devoto, Florence 5. Current Problems of Applied Linguistics Prof. Charles A. Ferguson, Washington 6. Linguistics and the Quantitative Approach Prof. Olga Akhmanova, Moscow The reports will be followed by discussions. The Organizing Committee will send the full texts of the reports to the participants in the Congress in advance. In order to work out the final programme, the Organizing Committee calls upon those willing to take part in the discussions of the general reports to make an announcement to this effect as soon as possible. Besides the plenary sessions, the proceedings of the Congress will include sections and group meetings. The following are the subjects suggested for the section meetings: (I) 1. Theories of Language, 2. Sociolinguistics, 3. Geographical Linguistics, 4. The History of Linguistics; ( ) 1. Semantics, 2. Syntax, 3. Poetics, 4. The Child's Acquisition of Speech; (III) 1. Psycholinguistics, 2. Stylistics, 3. Language Typology, 4. Language Pathology. The number and subjects of the group meetings will be established soon after the titles of the papers have been announced by the participants themselves. 3. CONGRESS LANGUAGES: English, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish will be accepted for the papers and discussions. 4. PARTICIPATION AND REGISTRATION FOR THE CONGRESS: The Congress is open to everybody interested in linguistics (private persons, or representatives of a scientific institution: academy, university, faculty, research centre, etc.).
