Abstract: What ethical considerations are encountered when making an interactive auto/biographical documentary based on the true story of an orphaned ten-year-old girl who is also the author’s mother? Making The Shoebox , the author discovered that both her familial relationship with the protagonist and its online delivery challenged the subject’s informed consent.
