X3H3 Standards Report Richard F. Puk and George S. Carson Redwood City, January 13-17 X3H3. I--application programmer I/F' s Work on PHIGS PLUS is nearly finished. A final editing meeting was held in November in Hood River, Oregon, to consider the comments received in the final round of voting. This meeting was attended by delegates from France, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Final text was prepared and has been submitted to ISO for publication. It should be available from ANSI in the third quarter of 1992. As part of the normal standards maintenance mechanism, ISO has established a PHIGS defects reporting committee. The U.S. members of this are David Larson from Hewlett-Packard and Tom Gaskins from Sound Software. They are currently working on a group of 39 defects which have been reported to ISO. Most are simply matters of clarification. A U.S. position on these defect reports is being prepared. Two ad hoc subgroups of X3H3.1 have been active for several months studying two areas of possible extension to PHIGS. One area is considering the impact of adding specific support for window management systems to PHIGS. At present, the subgroup appears to be leaning toward
