WHAT'S UP IN FRANCE? In response to our query, "W~at's up in Europe," we received a nice letter from Patrick Celd~an of 69 Rue Saint Nicholas, 4900 Angers, Frances Patrick teaches in a french college, and also works for the Centre National de Documentation Pedagogigue (CDDP) providing information for teachers on computer uses in education. He sent us a summary of activities around France. The summary was in french, so we contracted our favorite interpreter, Martha Folk, for a loose translation. We can't vouch for its absolute accuracy~ but surely the basic ideas are there° Let us know if you note any important errors. Also~ if their are any other europeans, south americans, or others with information to share, we~d love to hear what you and your colleagues are up t O o ~ . ) COMPUTER ASSISTED INSTRUCTION (In France "Enseigment Assignment Assiste par Ordinateur," so EAO=CAI.) INFO 01/80 "Antenna" on Information Science Bulletin *Since 1969, computers have been placed in 58 secondary schools(lycees). Encouraged by the results obtained, the Ministry of Education decided to install i0,000 microcomputers in schools within 5 years. About 300 lycees have rece%ved microcomputers since the beginning of 1979 (in the academy: Nantes-St. Nazaire-Le Mans-Laval-Angers). Moreover, numerons establishments have equipped themselves with computers through their o ~ means. *The INRP (29 Rue d'Ulnur, Paris) documents the many programs carried out by teachers. This organization will soon disseminate a review on pedagogical applications of computers. *The editor Fernand Nathan publishes "Education et Informatique ("Education and Information Sciences"), a monthly review of CA1. *ADEMIR (9Rue Huysmans, 75006 Paris): Association pour le Development dans l'Enseignement de la Micro Informatique et des Reseaux: a group interested in instructional applications of microcomputer systems. *PRO-EAO (Mr. Luft, Universiti de Nice, 06034 Nice Cedix) another group interested in instructional applications. *i'AFCET (Association Francaise de Cybeinetique Economical et Technique, 156 Bd Pereire, 75017 Paris) organized a course having to do with the development of programs used for instruction. *Development of a LOGO system: 72017 Lemans Cedex.
