Pat Billingsley Voice-Messaging Standard Completes Its Journey ISO/IEC 13714 is a newlypublished standard on voice-messaging user interfaces, with the formidable title of ln~rmation 7~chnology - Document Processing and Related Communications- ~ e r Inwr~ce to 7hiephone-Based Services- Voice Messaging Apph2"ations. This standard evolved from a document originally developed by the Voice Messaging User Interface Forum (VMUIF), a US-based industry group. In mid-1990, X3V1.9 agreed to take on the voicemessaging project and support fulrther development of the VMUIF material. In mid- 1992, X3V1.9 submitted the voice-messaging draft to their international mirror group, ISO/IEC JTC1/SC18/WG9, as a technical contribution. After further development by WGg, the document went through parallel balloting within ANSI and ISO/IEC. The final text was formally approved as both a national and international standard in mid-1994. The ISO/IEC version of the standard is now published and available for purchase from either ANSI or ISO. The ANSI version, which will be available soon, will have the same content as the ISO/IEC version.
