The E. Iverso'n to Following the presentation of the award, Stephen Mansour made these additional comments: NNEC. SHAW'Scommitment, dedication and perseverence as well as the countless hours she has spent volunteering and serving on various committees have contributed significantly to the advancement and promotion of APL. As conference chairman of APL99 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, I personally benefitted from Lynne's commitment to APL by drawing upon her experience with previous conferences. Although she officially served as Publicity Chair, she also voluntarily took on added responsibilities including working with the Program Chair to ensure we had adequate invited speakers, papers and tutorials, and by helping to solicit sponsorships from various vendors. During the conference, she was active in rearranging the tutorials and workshops to accommodate all of the attendees. Without her assistance, the conference could not have taken place. Her sustained involvement with SIGAPL has provided continuity and consistency in the organization which in turn has assured the APL community that array processing languages such as APL and J are not merely surviving in business and academia, but flourishing in these environments. ⢠tht Dtotlopmtnt and t.pplication of :andin Contribution ¢r PRESENTED AT THE A P L - B E R L I N - 2 0 0 0 CONFERENCE eYJON MCGREWAND STEPHEN I ~ N S O U K ON BEHALF OF SIGAPL The presentation of the award was made by jTon McGrew: 1983, the Iverson Award has been the computer indust~'s most prestigious award for APL. Although the award has often been given for high technical ent, it is not a technology award. The basis for the award may be high achievement within the APL field, exceptional performance, creativity, sustained long-term proven performance, and of course, exceptional results. The intention is to recognize the work and the results of those people who have consistently done the most to further the role of APL, through implementation, or education, or any other sig-' nificant means--and omen without pay. These people are an elite group. Tonight it is my great honor to be able to stand before you and announce to you that the decision of the SIGAPL Board is that the Iverson Award for Outstanding Achievement for the year 2000 shall be presented to Lynne C.
