The Animation Screening Room SIGGRAPH 94 LynnPocock Assistant Professor Department of Computer Graphics Pratt Institute While the name of the venue may change from time to time, the overall nature of the SIGGRAPH A n i m a t i o n Screening Room remains the same. The 1994 show consisted of approximately seventy animations divided into four categories: Art and Design, Science and Technology, Entertainment and Commercial, and Architecture and Industrial Design. Although the work varied greatly with respect to quality, there were many exceptional animations, some of which were the best of SIGGRAPH 94. The Entertainment and Commercial Program contained the best pieces in the show. Surprisingly, one of the most beautiful animations was a Smarties "Smart-ILLusions," candy commercial, produced by Alistair Fryer. Although only forty five seconds long, this animation is extremely captivating. Filled with beautiful illustrations, whimsical sound, and ballet-like transformations and transitions, this piece commands the audience's attention. Another striking animation was "The Hit" by Jordi Moragues. While row after row of identical steel hammers pound away monotonously in a huge factory style room, a lone maraca-like hammer hits to the beat of its own fanciful tune.
