SYSDOC Newsletter By Joe Rigo P1 acement Sidekick Use Sidekick (from Borland I n t ' l ) to import Lotus spreadsheets, sample menus, and other text displays into your PC word processor document. I t saves a lot of keying for the examples and illustrations in your manual. GraphLink GraphLink lets you copy graphics i~to your MultiMate documents. I t ' s a memory resident cut and paste f a c i l i t y to capture medium and high resolution displays. I t imports pictures just as Sidekick imports text. You create an image with Lotus or your usual graphics software. Then call GraphLink to cut all or part of your screen display and save i t as a PIX f i l e . Bring up your MultiMate document. Type a code and the PIX filename where you want the graph to appear. Whenyou print the document, the graph w i l l be there. 12 tl 18 9 8 7 6 5 Very few people read a reference manual from Page I to the end. So i t ' s not enough to put important information into the introduction. You must put i t into the paragraph they w i l l read when they are getting ready to do the task. P1 anning Estimate two pages a day for a writing project. More i f i t is graphics intensive. Now all you have to figure out is how many pages you need. Document Requirements Some paper is disappearing. On-Screen menus and prompts are replacing the Quick Reference Card. An on-line tutorial replaces the printed t u t o r i a l . But you s t i l l need a reference manual to document all the details. No Thanks Doesn't i t bug you when the manual for a new product starts out with "Congratulations on your purchase of our t e r r i f i c new whatever."
