Standing at the Crossroads of Art & Technology We were standing outdoors in a crowd of thousands at 4 a.m. in downtown Manhattan, waiting for Jimmy Buffett to walk onstage for a Today Show live performance. You wouldn't normally think this the best place for negotiating budgets and project planning, but there we were standing in a crowd of parrot heads with our Palm Pilots, digital cameras and our internal creative fires ablaze. In the midst of this chaos, we found ourselves with time (the Today Show didn t start for another three hours), time we put to use detailing a partnership strategy. It didn t matter that everyone was staring at us using our cell phones as calculators and reading notes off of napkins from the brainstorming session the night before. We had time and we put it to good use. We ve come a long way in six years, but we haven t had to walk the road alone. Just as we support our partners by purchasing the tools of the trade for our students, our partners have come to support our efforts at trade shows and conferences. ACM SIGGRAPH is a conference of utmost importance
