Introductio n For several reasons, English has long become a "lingua franca" in the world of technology, and particulary in computer science (CS) . Most programmin g languages, software products and advanced technologies come from English-speaking countries, so that English has spread out in CS as a natural vehicle fo r international communication . Spanish-speaking countries, specially developin g countries in Latinamerica, represent a large part o f the world's population . The number of Latinamerican computer science students is also large, so that translations turn out to be a reasonable solution t o the problem of accessing to technical literature i n English . Most textbooks used in colleges and universities in Latinamerica are translations into Spanish from American textbooks . This article tries to show that several versions in Spanish of well-known textbooks in English on computer programming share a common feature : the incorrect translation of certain words and terms, which may be critical for a complete text understanding
