The 1991 conference of ACM SIGIR (Special Interest Group on Information Retrieval) was held Oct. 14-16 in Chicago. The usual crowd attended, but with many more contributors from business; although still not many from the commercial services. The research presentations at the conference continued the usual discussions of AI and IR, vector space models, and so on. I felt that not enough new was presented (I did not attend the tutorials, which had more new material). Just as a demonstration, here's a little quiz for readers.
