SESSION SUMMARY: Summary and Plans for next IRTAW Chair: Joyce Tokar Rapporteur: Ben Brosgol 1. Prioritization of AIs Based on the work done throughout the week and the proposals put forth by the workshop attendees, the group agreed that there needed to be some prioritization of the outstanding AIs. In addition, someone from the IRTAW needed to take on the responsibility of completing the AI and submitting to the ARG. The top five issues to be worked on are listed below: Id AI-249 XXXX AI-266 XXXX XXXX Description Ravenscar Profile CPU Budgets Task Termination Time Events Dynamic Ceilings Status Done Work Alternative Work Work Who Tokar Gonzalez Wellings Burns Real Priority High Low Low High High High Id AI-265 AI-264 AI-250 XXXX XXXX XXXX Issue Partition Elaboration Exceptions as types Extended Protected Types Nonpreemption Round Robin Scheduling Real-Time DSA Status Simplify Reflect rework Need an example Done Work Work Who TBD TBD Michell Burns Gonzalez Gonzalez The group agreed that the first set of issues were very important and should be sent to the ARG in time for the meeting in June 2002. The remaining issues need more work and some ownership before they will be ready for discussion at the ARG level. 2. Next IRTAW There was a question of whether the Ravenscar AI should include requirements for documentation of relevant metrics, and, if so, which metrics. Such information (e.g. the overhead of clock interrupt handling) is important to users. However, it is difficult to formalize these sorts of requirements, and in any event the data tend to be specific to particular boards / configurations. Another possibility is to provide benchmark tests (something like the Ada 83 PIWGs) that users can run. The group eventually decided (vote was 17-1) that documentation requirements would not be part of the Ravenscar Profile amendment, but instead go into a supporting report on guidelines for usage of the profile. It may be worth noting that the one "no" vote (where "no" means "include documentation requirements as part of the Profile itself"), from Steve Michell, was a strong "no", based on his perception that the vote was premature and that if there had been an opportunity to propose specific documentation requirements then people may have had a more favorable response. Other issues that need to be presented to the ARG as Ada Issues include: Joyce reported on the organizing committee's decision to hold another IRTAW. Although the number of submitted papers (9) was down from previous workshops, it was felt that the IRTAW series can continue to play an important role in shaping Ada. Plans are in place to hold the next workshop in September 2003 near Porto, Portugal. Luis Miguel Pinho will be the local arrangements coordinator, and Tullio Vardanega will be the Program Committee chair. Ada Letters, December 2002 Volume XXII, Number 4
