SDSC Science Discovery: An Introduction to Computational Science on the World Wide Web Rosemarie M c K e o n D a v i d L. H a r t teachers and the public to ways that computing and science benefit society. San Diego Supencomputer Center Science Discovery is an effort by the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) ro promote an understanding of the exciting possibilities of computational science and supercomputing to a wide audience, including teachers, students and parents. Science Discovery uses chemistry, biology and environmental science as examples to illustrate the broad scope of computational science and scientific visualization. The site merges research, arc and scientific visualization by taking advantage of World Wide Web technologies. To ensure that the site can contribute to science education, SDSC is collaborating with science teachers from junior and senior high schools across San Diego County, including those with substantial minority populations. These 40 teachers have participated in the Supercomputer Teacher Enhancement Program (STEP) at SDSC and UCSD, a four-year, in-service program that helped the teachers incorporate computational tools into their classrooms. To appeal to the many students in the San Diego area that do not speak English as a first language,
