Traditionally, LISP has been the language for AI researchers, It has a number of unique features for the kind of programming that AI demands. However, till recently its use in the industry was restricted because the language is not standardized and many variations of the language exists. The MACLISP and INTERLISP versions were extensively used in earlier AI work. With the increasing popularity of the UNIX operating system, FranzLISP is currently being used in a number of projects.
