Su Department of Electrical Engincering The City College City University of New York New York, N.Y. 10031 ABSTRACT One important goal in digital engineering is to find a language which is d e s c r i p t i v e , efficient for simulation and automatic hardware implementation p~trposes o In this paper, the different levels of CHDL (computer hardware d e s c r i p t i o n languages) a r e introduced. Existing CHDL a r e surveyed and the features of t h e s e languages a r e pointed out. A table lists the a a m e s of CHDL~ the authors, and the r e f e r e n c e s . It also points out what language each CHDL is adapted from and r e p o r t s the status of the implementation of t h e s e languages.
