MOTIVATION An all-day workshop on Interdisciplinary Theory for CSCW Design was held 31 October 1992 at the beginning of the ACM 1992 Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work. This biennial conference was cosponsored by ACM SIGCHI and SIGOIS. It consisted of practitioners and researchers from many disciplines and countries partaking in workshops, tutorials, seminars, talks, as well as video and live demonstrations. The Interdisciplinary Theory workshop itself was similarly diverse in representation. It was organized by Dan Shapiro (Lancaster University, UK; shapiro@lancaster.ac.uk), Yvonne Waern (University of Stockholm, Sweden; yvowa@tema.liu.se), and Thomas Schael (Instituto RSO, Italy).
