Shanghai is one of the largest and most prosperous cities in China. It is located on the east coast, facing the East Sea on the east with Yaugze River on the north and Hangzhou Bay on the south. The city is about 120 kilometers from north to south and 100 kilometers from east to west with an area of 6,340 square kilometers. At the end of 1992, it had a population of close to 8 million. The conference was in cooperation with Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fudan University, China Computer Federation, Shanghai Computer Society, and Chinese Association of Discrete Mathematics.
