Report on the ICSE 2003 doctoral symposium Report on New Software Engineering Faculty Symposium (NSEFS 03) A Full-Day Symposium held in conjunction with ICSE 2003 5 May 2003 Portland, OR, USA Leon J. Osterweil, Organizer pv.bhansali@gte.net NSEFS 03 was held in conjunction with ICSE 2003 in Portland, OR, USA on May 5, 2003. There was a gratifyingly large turnout for the event, with over 30 people attending. An informal poll suggested that over one third of the attendees were in the nal stages of completing their Ph.D. programs, and another third or so were less than two years past the receipt of their degrees. Thus, the audience for this event was very much what was desired. The presenters were all acknowledged leaders in the software engineering academic research community, and all gave outstanding presentations, full of insights, hints, and encouragement. The attendees responded admirably, with penetrating questions and considerable enthusiasm. All were left with the hope that a ne cadre of up-and-coming young academics is now o € to a somewhat surer start with their careers. Gregg Rothermel has been kind enough to set up a web site that contains the slides that were presented at NSEFS 03.
