Journals ACM SIGMAP Bulletin Issue 20

For some years now it has been the custom of the operations research and the management science societies to invite me for comic relief---that is, I talk about applications. I realize this is a new idea, but I keep hoping it will catch on. I teach at the Colorado School of Mines, and since we are not a university, we do not have to pretend to educate anyone. Our job is to turn out a product for which there is some demand. This also is a new idea in American education which I hope will catch on.
