Weis: This presentation describes some of the experimental Computer Network activities at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center and elsewhere during the past three years. Design philosophy and functional capabilities of the various netting activities are explored. A network connecting several universities and industrial laboratories in the United States is now operational. The current operation of the network interfaces, and the expansion of these as a result of the experience gained, are discussed, along with some of the outstanding technical and managerial problems that will have to be addressed during the coming years in the area of computer networks.
