There is a dual nature to cognition: subjective and objective. Only objective cognition, as seen by others, lends itself to study in terms that are observable and repeatable. We restrict ourselves to this aspect, and further assume that cognition as an attribute of the physical system that carries it. This leaves many problems of philosophy and even some questions of the physical theory of measurement out of our scope. The payoff is a time tested and solidly successful approach to what is observable, repeatable, and predictable.
