News track WILY HACKER, THE SEQUEL... "Boy, I'm looking forward to going back to being anonymous me," explains Cliff Stall, the celebrated stalker of the West German computer spy ring busted last month. (See Communications, May 1988, p. 484.)The media descended upon the Sherlocking astronomer when a trio of computer hackers was arrested in Bonn and accused of spying for the Soviets. A research associate at Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory at Harvard, Stall initially stumbled across paths in 1986 while working at Lawrence Livermore Laborathe hackers' tory. What transpired was a two-year cat-and-mouse game, of which Stall now laments: "I'm happy it's over; I'm delighted that I'll have the chance to go back to doing astronomy." IMAGES OF MISSING CHILDREN.. .A software program that can process a photo of a child and create an image of how the boy or girl will age is playing a vital role in locating missing children. The program, developed at the University of Illinois, has been used to process more than 80 photos that, in turn, have helped locate 29 missing children to date.
