MODESSURVEY JEFFJOHNSON GEORGEENGELBECK A survey of the literature, informal discussions with colleagues, and a pilot version of this survey distributed among immediate colleagues suggests that though researchers and designers may give similar definitions for the concept of "modes" in interactive systems, they don't agree much on whether or not particular systems are moded. This survey is intended to determine the extent to which this is true. We would appreciate your taking a few minutes to complete this questionnaire. We would also appreciate your not consulting with friends and colleagues before or while filling it out. Completed surveys can be returned at the CHI '88 conference (boxes will be available), or can be mailed to Jeff Johnson at U S WEST Advanced Technologies, 6200 S.
