Abstract Compressed Video is a technology that offers the potential to provide quality education to remote sites. But the benefits that are quoted in the literature and taunted by salesmen of this rather expensive solution can be very difficult to obtain without a well thought out and executed implementation plan. This paper examines some of the potential problems with introducing compressed video and offers recommendations on course selection, teacher selection, and class time which should aid in its successful implementation. 1.3 Teacher support 1 Introducing compressed video Compressed video provides the ability to transmit and receive both audio and video from both the home and remote sites. The potential to provide quality education to remote sites is very appealing and offers the promise of expanded offerings at remote sites, elimination of both travel time and travel expense and of course the elimination of the expense of another teacher.
