Iverson The 1985 Minnowbrook meeting began with a talk by Ken Iverson titled "The APL Dictionary". Iverson described his proposal for an APL with simpler structure and more versatility than existing APLs, b u t permitting an evolutionary migration of software to it. The complete written proposal is the "Dictionary"", a draft of which was distributed to all attending the meeting.-After describing the guiding principles leading from traditional APL to Dictionary APL, Iverson went on to list a few particular enhancements. He mentioned extending the use of the copula + to other APL objects, as in IF++. x, then continued with a description of the current style of direct definition, which was mostly very well received. There was much resistance, however-- both at the time and in conversations later through the workshop-- to the notion that dynamic localization should
