PAGE 3 Addres s Message from the Vice Chairperson for the Deaf , Kate Lowenstei n This is the first newsletter since the new officer s were elected, and we have all agreed to write something i n the way of introducing ourselves . Over the past 5 6 days , I've made at least that many false starts in writing thi s introduction, not really quite sure what it is I want t o say . I can say that I am a sional, having worked as a 1978 : thus my interest in for the deaf . I also have in relation to computers : first place . hearing impaired computer profesprogrammer/analyst since April o f the position of Vice Chairperso n an interestin other disabilitie s thus my joining SIGCAPH in th e I get very excited when I hear or read about some new breakthrough in computer technology allowing people to d o things they could not do before . For that reason, I am happy to be working in the field that makes such things possible . I would like to see more people, deaf, blind, an d other handicaps working in this field . Thus I have taken upon myself the project a list of educational and training programs aimed at persons with disabilities for computer eventual publication this newsletter .
