Rubin Pacific Bell Video Services W h i l e v e c t o r g r a p h i c s -- n o n - m e m o r y mapped displays consisting o f lines d r a w n directly t o the visible screen -- were once at the heart of the coin-op videogame industry in the early 1980s, it is quite possible that m o s t y o u n g e r game players, and m o s t o f today's game designers, have probably never even seen a vector display. I first saw one connected t o a PDP-II computer while attending University of California Berkeley in the early '70s. The first time I played with one, I knew I had t o design games for a living someday. And I did. Upon graduating, I joined Atari as one of their first software engineers.
