I decided that for the project my team has been doin g on Web-based animation techniques it was time, yet again, to check the status of presenting mathematics on the Web . After all, just because it was virtually impossible to write hig h quality hyperlinked technical material involving mathematical expressions a few months ag o didn't mean it couldn't be done today. Things change so fast anymore . Besides, I had bee n hearing rumors of something new on the technological horizon called MathML . Actually, I'm not asking for much . All I want is to be able to write a complete, interactive , dynamic theory book that also allows students to study the material at different levels an d perhaps for different learning styles via appropriate links, and that allows students to brin g up animations of important concepts (models of computation, various pumping lemmas, NP completeness, and so forth) with which they can effectively interact in learning the theor y of computing .
