VISFILES Large Operational User of Visualization The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) makes the world s most accurate weather forecasts and is a major user and developer of visualization. Jens Daabeck heads their graphics group, and was an excellent boss when I worked at ECMWF in 1998. I have asked him to contribute this month s column about the role of visualization at the very competent and practical ECMWF. This article gives an overview of the graphics development that has taken place over the last 25 years at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF, Reading, UK).
