"Environmental issues are tightly interrelated," Crawford explains . Calling books static, "like a dead fish," he notes, "if you want to talk about how complex systems like the environment function, you've got to let people play with the variables . Computers are the only medium which makes this possible ." No public relations slouch, Crawford's game was released on Earth Day, April 22 1990 .
