Introducing A+" ...d New APL System! --by.Ton McGrew, .~ohnMizel, and Brian Redman Xew York, ~VewYork JANUARY22, 2001 NEWAPL SYSTEMis now being offered to the public, and it comes from what is perhaps an unexpected! source: the financial services firm of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. The A+ language has enjoyed widespread usage within MSDW for the past ten years, and is now being made available free of charge. This is the latest available release of A+ Version 4, and includes related libraries and complete on-line documentation. In total, there are over 261,000 lines of C/C++ source, which represents a significant contribution to the open source community. This artide is meant to provide a starting point. We intend to feature a more thorough discussion of A+ in a future issue of APL platform of the period. Not happy with the systems evaluated, Arthur, motivated by management, wrote one geared to the business: large capacity, high performance.
