User interface design, human factors and enterprise-wide technology planning continue to be increasingly important in the design of products ranging from industrial controls to workstation and PC software. According to a recent survey by Brad Myers and Mary Beth Rosson, reported in the proceedings of CH'92, "an average of 48% of the code is devoted to the user interface portion" for the projects they surveyed. CHI conferences in the past have provided important venues for learning about advances in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) field. INTERCHI'93, a joint conference of INTERACT and CHI, looks to be especially important. Planned for April of 1993 in Amsterdam, the conference presents both unique advantages and challenges because of its European location.
