Featured Columns IFIP Vibes The Seoul Accord A. Joe Turner This column is a digression from an IFIP focus in order to provide some information about the Seoul Accord, which addresses the equivalence of professional preparation among graduates of computing programs accredited by different accreditation agencies. The Seoul Accord is an agreement among a group of signatories, or accord members, that all graduates of baccalaureate-level computing programs accredited by any signatory should be recognized as being equivalent in meeting the minimum standards of preparation for entry into an appropriate computing profession. ( Computing profession in this context refers to one of the various sub-disciplines of computing, such as computer science, information systems, and information technology.) The Seoul Accord is similar in intent and design to the Washington Accord, which recognizes the essential equivalence of educational preparation for entry into an engineering profession among graduates of baccalaureate-level engineering programs accredited by its signatories. The accord agreement essentially says that each accord member recommends that any recognition given to graduates of its accredited programs also be given to graduates of the accredited programs of the other accord members.
