Divers e data models exist for managing the objects in software engineering environments(SEE) . Among them are Object-Oriented(OO) [DABR90], such as GEMSTONE [PENN87] ; Entity Relation Attribute (ERA) [CHEN76], such as CAIS-A [CAIS89] and PCT E [PCTE90] ; and a Relational DataBase Management System (RDBMS) approac h [CODD81] . Each has its strengths and drawbacks when applied to the software process , environments, and tools . The 00 approach provides for active objects, each having its own identity . Encapsulation and information hiding are built into an 00 approach. Dynamic binding and inheritance, which are also associated with the 00 approach, fit well with the needs of tools . Dynami c binding provides the ability to add new functionality with minimal overhead. Inheritance models the enhancement of
